I exhibit alongside other artists at least once a year and in a variety of venues across South East England. Here is a selection of related pieces I have created in the last ten years.
Leaves in the Landscape
These were a series of eight panels created for exhibiting at Snape Maltings in September 2022.
Tree Time
This series of nine panels was begun in response to an art walk I completed around the Outer Aylesbury Ring in early 2020. It was exhibited first at Snape Maltings in September 2021.
St Albans: a story unfolding across the landscape
I depicted the city in a series of 25 embroidered maps, each representing a small area and accompanied by a brief text. Together, they formed a book that chronicles St Albans’ evolution since Roman times. I worked from Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 maps, which had residential properties clearly marked, and this gave me the idea that at the end of the exhibition in St Albans Museum in late 2019, I could personalise each piece for local people by stitching a small house to show where they live. The proceeds were donated to Centre 33 in Spicer Street, a local charity for the homeless.
Museum Hats: Saffron Walden
I created two hats in 2018, to depict the changing roles of the museum over the centuries. The ethos in the nineteenth century was related to bringing items from all over the world for local people to see. In the twenty-first century the same museum is focused on bringing Saffron Walden to the attention of the rest of the world.
Seven Sisters Series
This series were exhibited for the first time in Snape Maltings in 2016. I love the walk along this stretch of the Sussex cliffs and used a map base with contours to illustrate the differences between each of the seven cliff sections.
